Citizenship ceremonies in Sunshine Coast
This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Sunshine Coast Council area. The council holds them in January, March, July, September and November 2026. They are held across the Sunshine Coast region, and your invitation gives the place.
How you are invited
Home Affairs puts people into ceremonies and sends the council a list of approved candidates about 4 to 6 weeks before. The council emails your invitation at least 4 weeks before and follows up until you confirm. You cannot choose the ceremony. The wait from approval can be as long as six months.
When ceremonies are held
Ceremonies are held regularly, in January, March, July, September and November in 2026.
What to bring
- valid photo ID, such as a current Australian driver's licence or a valid passport
- a holy book, if you want to hold one when you pledge
Guests and what to wear
Formal or smart casual clothes. National or cultural dress is welcome.
The ceremony lasts about 30 minutes, but allow about 2 hours in all, because registration starts 1.5 hours before. People aged 16 and over must come with photo ID.

What happens at the ceremony
You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
