Citizenship ceremonies in Cumberland
This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Cumberland City Council area. The council lists ceremony dates through 2026, and the next ones are in November. Each ceremony takes about 45 minutes.
How you are invited
Home Affairs sends a letter with the place and time, within 6 months of your approval letter. If nothing comes in 6 months, contact Home Affairs.
When ceremonies are held
The council holds a number of ceremonies through the year.
Coming ceremony dates
- Monday 9 November 2026
- Monday 30 November 2026
Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.
What to bring
- photo ID, such as a licence or passport
- your invitation letter from Home Affairs
- a camera or phone for photos with the Mayor, if you like
Guests and what to wear
Guests cannot come, because seating is limited.
Arrive one hour before for registration. If you are late, you cannot take part, and your certificate goes back to Home Affairs. Leaving before the affirmation and national anthem may mean you do not become a citizen.

What happens at the ceremony
You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
