Citizenship ceremonies in Penrith

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Penrith City Council area. Ceremonies are held on Australia Day and National Citizenship Day, and on other days through the year. Each ceremony takes about 45 minutes.

How you are invited

Home Affairs handles your application. When the council hears you are approved, it sends you an invitation. The council says this can be up to 4 months after your approval letter, but Home Affairs says up to 12. If you cannot come, follow the steps in the invitation.

When ceremonies are held

There is a ceremony on 26 January for Australia Day and on 17 September for National Citizenship Day, and others during the year.

Where ceremonies are held

  • Penrith City Council Chambers
  • Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre

What to bring

  • a driver's licence or passport to show who you are

Guests and what to wear

The number of guests is limited, and your invitation says how many.

Nobody can go in after the ceremony starts. Late people are moved to the next ceremony. You get an electoral enrolment form with your certificate.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
