Citizenship ceremonies in The Hills
This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in The Hills Shire Council area. Ceremonies are by invitation only, and you must go to one in your own council area. Do not contact the council about your application.
How you are invited
After your approval letter, Home Affairs sends a second letter, about 6 months later. It arrives 4 to 6 weeks ahead of the ceremony, and gives the date and place. Places go by approval date only, and there is no fast track.
When ceremonies are held
Ceremonies are held through the year, with one large ceremony on Australia Day.
Where ceremonies are held
- Council Chamber, Norwest
- Castle Grand Community Centre, Castle Hill
What to bring
- photo ID, such as a current passport or driver's licence
- your invitation letter from Home Affairs, on paper or on a screen
- a holy book, if you want to hold one when you pledge
Guests and what to wear
Each person can bring one adult guest. Babies and small children are always welcome.
Smart casual clothes. National or cultural dress is welcome.
You must attend within 12 months of approval, or your approval may be cancelled. Free photos are emailed within two business days. You need to wait 10 business days after the ceremony to apply for a passport.

What happens at the ceremony
You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
