Citizenship ceremonies in Ballarat

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the City of Ballarat area. The city has eight ceremonies on its 2026 list, and two of them mark Australia Day and Australian Citizenship Day. You cannot choose the date or the place.

How you are invited

Home Affairs sends the invitation 2 to 4 weeks before, with the date, time and place. Then the city emails more details. If you have heard nothing within a week, you can email the city. If you cannot come, let both the city and Citizenship Ceremonies Victoria know, and you go back on the waitlist.

When ceremonies are held

Eight ceremonies are listed for 2026, including ones for Australia Day and Australian Citizenship Day.

Coming ceremony dates

  • Friday 27 November 2026

Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.

What to bring

  • valid photo ID, such as a passport or driver's licence
  • a screenshot or photo of a digital licence is not accepted

Guests and what to wear

Each family can bring up to 3 guests, and you can ask the city for more. All ages of children are welcome, and there is a play area for them.

Without valid photo ID, you cannot finish the ceremony or become a citizen. Some dates can change.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
