Citizenship ceremonies in Boroondara

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the City of Boroondara area. Ceremonies are held at Hawthorn Arts Centre. The council says the wait is 3 to 6 months after approval, and it adds extra dates to shorten it.

How you are invited

Home Affairs puts you in a ceremony and sends your invitation 3 to 4 weeks ahead. The council has no part in approvals, waitlists or places. After you get the invitation, the council sends more details.

When ceremonies are held

The council lists twelve dates for 2026, and adds extra dates and larger ceremonies to cut waiting time.

Coming ceremony dates

  • Thursday 5 November 2026
  • Thursday 10 December 2026

Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.

Where ceremonies are held

  • Hawthorn Arts Centre

What to bring

  • a driver's licence, passport or other document with a photo (not needed if you were under 16 when you applied)

The dates are not final and may change.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
