Citizenship ceremonies in Melton

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Melton City Council area. The ceremony is set by your home address, so you cannot choose it. Council also runs monthly sessions to help with the citizenship test.

How you are invited

Home Affairs gives out places in the order of approval and emails the invitation 2 to 4 weeks before. The council sends a reminder two business days before. People who applied together are not invited until all are approved.

When ceremonies are held

The council holds ceremonies at regular times through the year.

Coming ceremony dates

  • Thursday 17 December 2026
  • Friday 18 December 2026

Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.

What to bring

  • your ceremony invitation from Home Affairs
  • original photo ID, such as a passport or driver's licence
  • if you have no photo ID, three different kinds of ID with your name on each

Guests and what to wear

Each person can bring only one guest. Guests and new citizens sit in separate areas.

The council has a dress code in a PDF. Check the council's ceremony page for the details.

Register on the day at least 15 minutes before the start. If you cannot come, you do not need to tell the council. Dates can be cancelled or changed.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
