Citizenship ceremonies in Knox

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Knox City Council area. Ceremonies are held at Knox Civic Centre. They are for invited people only, and the venue is full.

How you are invited

The council does not handle invitations. Home Affairs sends your invitation roughly 4 weeks ahead, with the date, the place and the papers to bring. If you cannot come, tell Home Affairs, not the council.

When ceremonies are held

The council lists six days for 2026, with several ceremonies on each day.

Coming ceremony dates

  • Friday 13 November 2026

Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.

Where ceremonies are held

  • Knox Civic Centre

What to bring

  • ID, such as a driver's licence, passport or other document with a photo
  • if you have no photo ID, at least 3 papers with your name, address and signature
  • a holy book of your own, if you want to hold one when you pledge
  • children under 16 need no ID, but they must stay with the main applicant

Guests and what to wear

You can bring one guest, plus babies and small children who do not need a seat.

Smart casual clothes, or national, traditional or cultural dress. Swimwear, bare feet and clothes with offensive words or pictures are strongly discouraged.

Arrive early for registration and ID checks, because late people may not be let in. The council does not provide holy books. The dates are tentative.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
