Citizenship ceremonies in Banyule

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Banyule City Council area. The council lists four ceremonies for 2026, and the last one is on 21 October at 7pm. Ceremonies are by invitation only and are not open to the public.

How you are invited

The council runs ceremonies with Home Affairs, which tells the council who attends. Home Affairs tells approved people the date up to 4 weeks ahead.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
