Citizenship ceremonies in Bayside

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Bayside (NSW) council area. The council holds about 10 ceremonies a year. Home Affairs gives the dates, and the council does not list them.

How you are invited

Home Affairs manages the waiting list, gives the council a list of people and sends your invitation about 2 to 4 weeks before. You may wait as long as six months. If you cannot come, tell Home Affairs and you get another date.

When ceremonies are held

The council holds about 10 ceremonies through the year.

What to bring

  • your current original photo ID, such as a driver's licence or passport (not a copy or a phone photo)
  • the invitation letter from Home Affairs

You get a row and a seat number, and you stay seated until certificates are given out. Allow 1 to 1.5 hours. Ceremonies are live streamed.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
