Citizenship ceremonies in Georges River
This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Georges River Council area. The council lists two dates in 2026, and the last one is on 5 November. You do not need to contact the council to be invited.
How you are invited
Home Affairs contacts you and invites you. The council does not give people dates. From approval to invitation, the wait may be 6 months or more. If you miss a ceremony, you are given another, but after three misses the application is cancelled and you must apply again.
When ceremonies are held
The council lists two dates during the year.
Coming ceremony dates
- Thursday 5 November 2026
Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.
What to bring
- the ceremony invitation letter from the council or Home Affairs
- photo ID that shows your current address
Guests and what to wear
You can bring only the number of guests stated in your invitation. A responsible adult must watch children at all times.
Arrive at the time on your invitation. You are not a citizen, and you get no certificate, until you have made your oath or affirmation before the Mayor or someone authorised.

What happens at the ceremony
You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
