Citizenship ceremonies in Glen Eira

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the City of Glen Eira area. The council lists two dates for the rest of 2026, 11 November and 9 December. Most people from Glen Eira attend within three months of approval.

How you are invited

Home Affairs emails your invitation 3 to 4 weeks ahead, so look in your spam folder. It has the time, how to arrive, guest details and ID rules. The council cannot book you in or change dates.

When ceremonies are held

The council holds regular ceremonies, and may add more dates if needed.

Coming ceremony dates

  • Wednesday 11 November 2026
  • Wednesday 9 December 2026

Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.

What to bring

  • your ceremony invitation
  • one photo ID, such as a driver's licence, passport or proof of age card
  • if you have no photo ID, three original papers showing your name, address and signature

Guests and what to wear

Guests may come, and the limit is in your invitation. Guests sit apart from candidates.

There is no formal dress rule. Traditional cultural clothing is welcome.

Allow up to two hours. The ceremony starts at 7:30pm. Free parking is limited. The number 64 tram stops at the Town Hall.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
