Citizenship ceremonies in Hornsby

This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the Hornsby Shire Council area. Ceremonies are monthly, and the next listed one is on 4 November 2026. You must come, because attendance is compulsory.

How you are invited

Home Affairs sends a letter about four weeks before, with the date, time and place. The wait after approval is three to six months at most. Keep your email up to date in ImmiAccount.

When ceremonies are held

Ceremonies are held monthly, but dates may change.

  • Wednesday 4 November 2026

Dates can change. Your invitation gives your own date and time.

Where ceremonies are held

  • Hornsby Shire Council Community Halls
  • Fagan Park, Galston

What to bring

  • current Australian photo ID, such as a driver licence or passport
  • if you have no photo ID, at least three papers showing your name, address and signature

Guests and what to wear

Family and friends are welcome, but the room limits places. Tell the council if you want to bring more than one guest.

Smart casual clothes.

The ceremony takes 30 to 40 minutes. Children aged 16 and under do not need to come, and the registered parent can collect their certificate. Wait at least 10 days before you apply for a passport.

What happens at the ceremony

You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
