Citizenship ceremonies in Ryde
This page is for people becoming Australian citizens in the City of Ryde area. The council lists eight ceremonies for 2026, and the last two are on 27 August and 19 November. A ceremony runs about one hour.
How you are invited
After the approval letter, Home Affairs emails you an invitation with the time and place. The wait is three to six months. The council has no part in who gets a place.

Guests and what to wear
Each candidate can bring one guest. Children under 16 may come as well. Ask the council by email first, and note that it does not accept requests for an extra guest.
Dates can change. A photographer sends a link to photos soon after. If you cannot come, you do not need to tell the council.

What happens at the ceremony
You make the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of the people at the ceremony. You become an Australian citizen when you make the pledge, not before. After the pledge you should receive your citizenship certificate. If it is not ready on the day, it comes by post.
